We are honored to welcome Peggy Grande, author and President Reagan’s post-presidency executive assistant who worked at Reagan’s side from 1989 to 1999 and together created a powerful partnership. Grande was the liaison between Ronald Reagan personally and his staff, the public, local dignitaries, and world leaders. She handled his events, travel, personal and political relationships and day-to-day operations. If anyone knew the president after he left office—it was Peggy.
She had an eyewitness view to history. For a fascinating decade after Ronald Reagan was president—from 1989 to 1999—she was able to know Ronald Reagan the man. Peggy may have been his closest aide, through his announcement of Alzheimer’s disease through his literal final days at his Los Angeles office. She saw Ronald Reagan at his best and most vulnerable. She had a behind-the-scenes view of President Reagan’s private interactions with everyone from the general public to figures as diverse as Mikhail Gorbachev and Margaret Thatcher, Lech Walesa and Mother Teresa.
